Diet ALMOST over & Clomid Research
May 08, 2008
I’m on Day 15 of 21 of this no-carb diet - that is progress!! I will be so happy to be able to eat bread again. I know it won’t be the normal every day bread most people eat but it will be BREAD! I have this bread called “Ezekiel Bread”. It is actually pretty good with butter on it. Last Friday we went to Olive Garden for my cheat meal and I had one piece of the bread and it never tasted so good! After this diet is over I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to eat eggs and bacon again since that is basically all I eat for breakfast. If anyone has a Breakfast Casserole recipe that is 0-carbs, send it my way! I don’t know if there is such a thing. 6 more days after today…
Even though time is dragging this process really is about to begin. Next Monday I go for the first ultrasound and then if all is well, on the 18th I start taking Clomid.
I have been researching Clomid because I came across some blogs of women who took Clomid or some other fertility drug and ended up pregnant with quads or quints! Now everyone knows how much I want children, but I do not want to purposely take something that is going to produce triplets or more. (I would love twins.)
I was really confused there for a while because Dr. L had specifically talked multiple births with us and told us there is only a very small percentage of having twins and even smaller for triplets with taking Clomid. So I thought to myself, “How in the world are women still getting pregnant with 4 and 5 babies?”
So I researched Clomid on the internet and this is the conclusion I came to. There is a HUGE difference in taking Clomid and then just letting nature take its course and taking Clomid and being monitored constantly to see how many follicles are developing to be potentially ovulated/fertilized. I assume that is why I have 3 ultrasounds scheduled so I don’t ovulate 5 eggs and then on insemination day, have 5 eggs fertilized.
On Monday, I will be asking Dr. L about the risk of multiples taking Clomid AND being monitored very closely. And I hope he will say the purpose of monitoring is to keep 4 and 5 eggs from being fertilized at once. I also plan to ask him how many triplet+ births he’s had in his practice.
I know anytime you deal with fertility drugs there is a higher chance for having multiples. And like I said, twins are fine, but anything more and, for me, I just don’t think that would be wise. Not to say that every child isn’t a blessing from the Lord, whether they come 1 at a time or 5 at a time….I think (hope) you know what I am saying here!
