The Church Nursery

Nov 04, 2009

Little Bug is 5 months old and I have yet to leave her in the church nursery for two reasons:

1. No one knows what she needs better than her Mommy!

2. GERMS

When she was little and basically slept during church it was easy to just keep her with us. From the start, I told myself that as long as she isn’t a disturbance, she will stay with us at church and not go to the nursery.

Those days are quickly coming to a close because this girl likes to TALK – in the middle of Pastor Paul’s sermon!

So out the door Mommy and Little Bug go.

Now that Little Bug is on a pretty set eating/sleeping routine I do feel more comfortable leaving her in the church nursery if I know the person who will be watching her. I do not feel comfortable leaving her with a complete stranger – even in a church nursery! (Overprotective? Maybe? But in this day and age, you can’t be too careful.)

So that leaves my second concern … GERMS.

There is no solution here. I know my baby will eventually one day catch her first cold.

I probably wouldn’t be overly concerned about this if it wasn’t for the swine flu.

I know we could be out in Wal-Mart and walk by someone who has it. Which is why if we are out and about and a complete stranger walks up to Little Bug in her stroller and proceeds to TOUCH HER HAND (which is ALWAYS in her mouth), I am wiping her down 2.5 seconds after the stranger moves on.

(Why do complete strangers think it is okay to touch your baby? And especially the hands?? Little Bug constantly has her hands in her mouth. Hello, GERMS!)

Anyways, in Wal-Mart Little Bug will certainly not ever be chewing on the germ-infested grocery carts but in the nursery she most likely will be chewing on some toy that some other baby was chewing on five minutes ago before getting bored with it and moving on to the next!

I’ve even contemplated just not taking her to the nursery until flu season is over. But that would be … February! That’s a long ways away and I can only imagine keeping her with me will only get more challenging when she starts to crawl!

I don’t know. Maybe I’m being too much of a germophobe. But, anyone who knows my dad probably isn’t surprised in the least bit about this post.

My father is the King of Germophobes and he rarely gets sick!
