Next 24-48 hours are very critical
Jan 30, 2010
The coiling procedure was successful, however, there was a glitch.
One coil slipped out of the aneurysm and into another artery. The danger in this is that the coil is designed to form blood clots (which we want to happen in the aneurysm). However, if a blood clot were to form in this artery, Uncle David would have another stroke (aneurysm).
The doctor said there is a 10% chance of the above scenario happening.
Uncle David is on blood thinners and two stents were placed to drain that artery to hopefully avoid a blood clot.
The next 24-48 are CRITICAL. If a clot does not form in the next 24-48 hours, that will no longer be a concern.
Uncle David will spend the next 10 days in the ICU there at Duke.
They will also start the process of waking him up. He has been sedated since shortly after all this happened yesterday morning.
Uncle David is certainly not out of the woods yet, but he has already overcome so many odds against surviving something like this and we are continuing to trust that God will spare his life.
Please keep praying, especially in these next extremely critical 24-48 hours. Thank you so much. Our family feels your prayers.
Uncle David is the man in the center of the picture (wearing blue jeans). This picture was taken at Thanksgiving as we were playing “Spoons”.
