Update on Uncle David

Jan 30, 2010

Uncle David is still with us, which is a miracle in and of itself because according to doctor’s only 10% of patients make it this far.

Uncle David is in Raleigh, NC. He has been at Wake but he needs to be at Duke in order to get the coiling procedure. The doctor that does the coiling at Wake is on medical leave at this time.

Raleigh, NC had a snow storm last night and now there is sleet on the roads. Uncle David was supposed to be transported to Duke last night, but received a call from my Uncle Tom (my dad’s other brother) around 1am saying the medical staff had made the decision to not transport that night because of the weather conditions.

We just received word that they are preparing Uncle David to be transported to Duke right now. (Around noon EST) The weather conditions are still not favorable but the ambulance that is going to take him to Duke went on a dry-run and they think they can get him to Duke by using chains on the ambulance as they drive through all the snow on the ground.

Uncle David is hooked up to numerous tubes … shunt in the head, breathing tube and many more.

First prayer request is that the transport to Duke would be a success and that the aneurysm will not bleed on the way there. They are estimating the trip to take about 2 hours since they will be going at a very slow pace because of the weather conditions. It is normally a 45 minute drive from Wake to Duke.

Once arriving at Duke, Uncle David will undergo the coiling procedure. This is interesting. My grandpa has a friend whose husband is a neurologist. This neurologist knows the neural surgeon at Duke who will be doing the coiling procedure on Uncle David. It’s a small world.

Please pray this coiling procedure will be a success and stop any more bleeding from occurring.

It’s been a scary 24 hours and the next 24 hours will continue that way I am sure as we wait to hear that Uncle David made it to Duke safely and then as we await the result of the coiling procedure.

Please continue to pray for Aunt Mary, Lauren and Sarah.

Thank you for uniting once again in prayer.
