In the Blink of an Eye (with an update)

Jan 31, 2010

A situation, like the one we have gone though with my uncle, really makes you realize just how short life is and that each day truly is a gift.

Friday morning my uncle took my cousin to school. Sarah told her dad goodbye, hopped out of the car and was off to school.

She had no clue that the next time she would see her father, just several hours later, he would be lying motionless on a hospital bed with all kinds of tubes and wiring coming out of his head and body.

Uncle David’s back was hurting him and he headed to the doctor. While there, he started convulsing and stopped breathing.

In those moments he suffered an aneurysm that very well could have taken his life right then and there. In fact, nine out of 10 people who suffer the same aneurysm do die.

But my uncle didn’t.

Which reminds me that God is the giver and taker of life and despite those horrific odds, it just wasn’t Uncle David’s time to leave this earth.

What a reminder to us all that life is so fragile. Death can come to any one of us at any age at any time. Things can happen in the blink of a eye that can change life forever.

Sunday AM Update on Uncle David:

His color is looking better. Around 10am they were able to get him to open his eyes, although they will not start waking him up fully until 48 hours after the coiling procedure (which will be Monday evening).

A CAT scan did show he’s had two minor strokes since the coiling procedure.

Just keep praying a major stroke will not occur in the next 36 or so hours.

After this 48 hour milestone, the next milestone will be 7 days and then 14 days. With every milestone that he makes it to, there is an even better chance that he will make it to the next milestone.

Continue to pray for Aunt Mary, Lauren & Sarah.
