Did all that really happen??

Feb 20, 2010

I’ve been looking through pictures of Little Bug from months ago.

I cannot imagine life without Little Bug.

It’s like she has been a part of my family for decades but it has only been less than a year.

There are no words to describe how special she is.

Almost a year later, I still marvel at the way God delivered her to our family. I know until the day I die I will marvel at the miracle of Little Bug.

Sometimes I think, Did all that really happen to me? Did I really go through all that pain and heartache to turn in adoption paperwork and have a beautiful baby girl in my arms just 48 days later?

I think it is common for adoptive parents to wonder what their adoptive child will be like.

I know during the seven weeks we prepared for Little Bug’s arrival I wondered what Little Bug would be like.

She could not be any more perfect than she is. Amazingly so, she even looks like us! People tell me all the time: She looks like her Mama!

I never thought I’d ever say this but if God chose to only give us Little Bug and no more, my heart would be completely content.

I do pray God has another child for us, but my point here is that Little Bug is more than I ever imagined and my heart would be completely content if she was all God had for us.

Little Bug was so worth going through the pain of infertility.

If I had to choose getting pregnant on my own the first few months of trying or going through infertility and then Little Bug, I’d choose infertility and Little Bug every single time.

If told I could conceive naturally with no medical intervention but I’d have to first give back Little Bug, I’d choose Little Bug over a biological child any day.

If told the only way I could keep Little Bug was to go through the pain of infertility again, I do it in a heartbeat.

I really haven’t given much thought to the fact that without infertility, I most likely wouldn’t have Little Bug.

Infertility is heartbreaking but Little Bug not being my daughter is unfathomably heartbreaking.
