The Bottle Wean

Jun 12, 2010

When Monday rolled around, a cold turkey bottle wean just didn’t feel right.

That morning I put Little Bug’s milk/formula into the Nuby, picked her up out of the crib and went to the usual feeding rocking chair. The Nuby leaked everywhere! Little Bug’s pj’s were soaked by the time we got 3 out of 6 ounces down, so who knows how much Little Bug actually drank!

Right then I decided we were going to abort the Nuby and go back to bottles for the day until I could get to the store to buy a Born Free sippy.

The twins I used to nanny transitioned from bottle to Born Free sippy well so I figured we’d give it a try.

I have yet to introduce the Born Free sippy because Little Bug caught a cold and I felt introduction of something new when she is sick wouldn’t be wise. So, I’m waiting until she is better and can actually breath right when she is trying to drink.

So now my plan of action is the following:

When Little Bug is well I will introduce the Born Free sippy at the 4pm feeding. We will start with that feeding and wean from there instead of going to the sippy cold turkey.

If, however, Little Bug takes to the Born Free sippy like a champ, I just may decide to cold turkey bottle wean right there! I will just have to see where Little Bug goes with this weaning process.

My goal is for her to be bottle-free by 15 months.
