Day One of One Nap

Sep 09, 2010

I’m pleased with how well Little Bug did yesterday. It assures me I am doing the right thing in dropping the morning nap now.

I kept us busy during the morning with playing outside, Independent Playtime (28 minutes!), reading and playing with toys. There were a few moments where Little Bug was a little ornery/fussy, but I know it will just take her little body a few days/weeks to make this adjustment.

I decided 1:00pm would be a good start time for nap.

So her morning schedule really stayed the same, except for no morning nap! She had her milk around 11:30, we were eating lunch by noon and then I cleaned up lunch and we read books until almost 1.

She went right to sleep around 1, but woke up at 3:30pm crying. That was an hour and a half and I really was expecting her to wake up around then because she is used to 1 to 1.5 hour naps – she hasn’t taken a two hour nap consistently since way before she turned one!

I didn’t rush in to get her since she didn’t wake up happy because her cries told me she wasn’t quite ready to get up yet. Sure enough, within 5 or so minutes, I didn’t hear anything and she went back to sleep.

It’s now after 3pm (as I am writing this) and she is still sleeping. I will let her sleep as long as she wants until 4pm. If she is still sleeping at 4pm, I will wake her although I fully expect her to be awake any minute now or at least by 3:30.

I’m hoping the ease of today is a good sign that this transition will go smoothly for her.

I look forward to the day that we are into a great routine with one nap so she continues to get the rest she needs each day and I know when I have time periods to get things done around the house or to relax after entertaining a toddler all morning long! :) I also am looking forward to the freedom of not having to be home for the morning nap! I see many morning zoo trips in our future once the weather cools off a bit.
