One Step at a Time

Dec 19, 2010

Today as Dave and I were navigating our way to a baby shower using his cell phone the thought occurred to me that this is how God requires me to do life.

One step at a time.

Dave punched in the address of our destination and handed me the phone.

The last part of that sentence is kind of comical because those who know me well know I am not that good with directions.

I always say that I can get anywhere with a good map and good, explicit directions. If I am going somewhere that I am not familiar with, I always study my route the night before, and make sure I have the complete big picture of my journey before starting out. I want to know every turn I have to make and every landmark along the way.

So, Dave hands me the phone and I immediately think I hope I don’t get us lost!

I think it is the coolest thing that the cell phone shows you exactly where you are on your journey.

It does not show the past and your final destination is nowhere in the picture. You must take one step at time and follow the directions of the cellphone.

Just like life.

We don’t get a good map with explicit directions about where life will take us when we come home from the hospital as newborns.

We have to live life one step at a time.

It requires trust.

Today I put my trust in the feminine voice on the cellphone telling us where to turn when.

And in life, I have chosen to put my trust in Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.

He has never lead me astray and has taken me to places that I never dreamed were possible.
