Adoption Talk with Little Bug at 2
Jul 05, 2011
Our upcoming adoption has started opening the door for me to begin telling Little Bug her miraculous adoption story.
I want to be very open with Little Bug about the events surrounding her adoption. I am not worried one bit that she will one day resent her adoption in any way.
Who would resent a miracle such as the one that brought her into our family?
I have no clue how or on what day I will tell Little Bug her story. I just figured it would one day just come out.
One morning at breakfast Little Bug and I were eating and I was talking to her about having a little sister soon.
I told Little Bug that her sister is not here yet. I told her that her sister is in Melody’s tummy right now.
As soon as I said that, I knew there was an open door standing right there for me to start introducing the concept of “adoption” to Little Bug!
So I said, “Little Bug, did you know that you used to be in Tracy’s tummy? You grew in Tracy tummy and then when you were born Tracy gave you to Mommy because you are a very special little girl.”
You never know how much a 2 year old is listening or comprehending when you are talking to them, so several days later I put Little Bug to the test!
I asked her, “Little Bug, where is your baby sister?”
She looked at me and said, “Sweet Pea in Melody’s tummy!”
Then, without any prompting she said, “Little Bug used to be in Tracy’s tummy!”
That simple fact is just the thinnest layer of Little Bug’s story but she has peeled that off for sure!
As the years pass and Little Bug learns the deep facts and truths surrounding the events of her adoption, I pray she sees it for the miracle that it really is.
