The Great Double Stroller Dilemma

Sep 02, 2011

At first, I didn’t think a double stroller was going to be necessary. I thought I wouldn’t need to go anywhere by myself with the two girls and grocery shopping would continue to be a family affair on the weekend.

I am not sure what I was thinking.

Eventually, I will be brave enough to leave the confines of my house and venture out with my two darlings on wild adventures while Daddy is “at work writing code”, as Little Bug says.

Staying at home all day, every day is just not an option for us!

It drives Little Bug crazy to stay home for days in a row and it drives me crazy, too.

So, now I find myself in “The Great Double Stroller Dilemma”.

Do I need one?

I really do not know!!

Little Bug is in a stage where she prefers to walk instead of ride in the stroller. I let her walk but I usually have the umbrella stroller at hand incase she decides running away from Mommy is a cool thing to do. In that case, her booty goes immediately into the stroller and she loses her privilege of walking instead of riding.

The only thing I know I do not want is a Sit and Stand double stroller!

If I get a double stroller, I want one where I can strap BOTH kiddos in their seats and know they are not going anywhere!

I also know that I want: lightweight, reclining seat for baby, storage (doesn’t have to be huge…just enough for a diaper bag/purse) and good canopy for shielding kids from the sun.

Places I see myself using a double stroller: shopping center, grocery store, zoo, Wal-Mart runs, neighborhood park

These four are what I am considering:

I think this is probably what I would buy if I was told I had to make a decision NOW! It’s lightweight and I think it would serve my needs for trips to the store, zoo and walks around the neighborhood. Only con I see is that Sweet Pea is too young for it now, but by 2ish months maybe she would be comfortable in it. I could possibly keep using my single umbrella stroller for Little Bug and then put Sweet Pea in a sling until she is old enough for this stroller.

This stroller seems pretty similar to the one above. I’ve read lots of reviews about this stroller not being very durable.

This stroller seems to be one of the least bulky as far as big double strollers go. I am just not sure how long I would really use this one. Like I said, Little Bug prefers to walk. I can’t see her needing a stroller past 2.5 or 3 (once she is fully trained to stay with us and not run away), so I would probably use this only about 6-12ish months.

Dave discovered this one! I do like it, however, for errand running I might has well just stay home because I think this stroller would create more problems than it was worth to just get out of the house simply because of it’s size and the size of the isles in the typical store! The stroller would probably be perfect for zoo trips and walks to the park.

So, there is my dilemma!

Please feel free to tell me ANYTHING you so desire about double strollers!

If anyone has suggestions about these strollers I have mentioned in this post or another double stroller you may have loved (or hated!), please do share your experiences so I can hopefully come to a decision soon!

Once Sweet Pea turns 6 weeks old, we are hitting the town.

Speaking of this, we left home on Tuesday and have been staying at my parents’ house all week. My brother is here for the week so we’ve been having fun with Uh-Note (uncle)! It has been soooooo nice to not be stuck at home even though we have just been “stuck” at my parents’ house all week instead.

We will go home tomorrow or Sunday and then … come Monday I was thinking it would be my first SOLO day with BOTH girls by myself until my hubby reminded me of something absolutely WONDERFUL tonight …

Monday is a holiday and he will be HOME!

So … Tuesday it is.

One more thing … I went to my first “social event” tonight since Sweet Pea’s birth! I feel like a new woman tonight! Dave stayed home with Little Bug and let me go with my parents, brother and Sweet Pea to an event at Wesley’s church tonight.

Yep I took Sweet Pea out in public before she turned 6 weeks, but I didn’t let a soul even think about touching her or breathing on her and … it was a wonderful night!

Ok, that is all. Don’t forget to tell me all you know about double strollers!!
