Little Bug’s Room
Nov 07, 2011
I found this in my drafts today. It was written a loooooong time ago, but I decided to go ahead and post it today, anyway. Wow, I just went back and re-read this, and apparently I wrote this even before Little Bug’s 2nd birthday and our match with Melody! Almost 6 months later, and her room still looks like this. She won’t be getting a “big girl room” until she is 3, most likely.
I was Spring Cleaning Little Bug’s room today and enjoyed a walk down memory lane of putting her room together this time two years ago.
There are so many special touches to her room.
I took pictures after it was all clean and put back together and decided I would share her room on here.
Left Shelf: Pink Quilt that Little Bug’s Mimi made her. It was her first quilting project and she incorporated the colors in Little Bug’s room. In front of the quilt is a glass picture with Jeremiah 29:11 written across. My mother’s best friend, whose name also happens to be Elaine and who is also an adoptive mother, gave that to me as we were going through infertility treatments. To the right of the glass frame is a foot picture frame with a picture of Little Bug taking some of her first steps.
Right Shelf: This doll is the reason I decided Little Bug’s walls would be green. When my Grandma was very sick and in the hospital right before she died, someone who came to visit her brought her this doll. I knew I wanted to incorporate it into the décor of my daughter’s room.
These pictures held Little Bug’s professional newborn photos and then were replaced with her professional 1 year photos. When we get her 2 year pictures taken later this month, I will put them in these frames. These frames used to hang right above her changing table. That had to be moved out to the office since she climbed on top of it one day during Independent Play! Now, her laundry basket is there.
Little Bug’s crib. Even though she is almost two, I have absolutely no plans to take her out of the crib any time soon. She still fits perfectly. She sleeps awesome in there. I guess the way I see is….If it’s not broken, don’t fix it! I know many people move a toddler out of the crib when a new baby comes, but even when we thought we were adopting again, I had decided that I would just buy another (cheaper) crib to use for the new baby. I can’t imagine giving Little Bug the freedom of a toddler bed until she can FULLY comprehend what that means and I don’t want to have unnessary battles with her!
Little Bug’s bedding name is “Love Bug”. I walked into Babies R Us, saw this pattern and knew it was perfect. I walked around the store just to make sure there wasn’t something better, but went right back to my first choice. When I saw that the name was “Love Bug” I knew it was the one. (I had already given Little Bug her blog name!) Little Bug’s aunt and Grandma gave me this Love Bug picture to hang in her room. It hangs on the wall to the left of her bed.
Lots of special little things on the top of her dresser!
Lamp: My mom got me that. It goes with her Love Bug bedding theme. My mom still has the lamp that went with my nursery when I was a baby, so she really wanted to get Little Bug’s lamp.
Pink Frame: This frame holds a picture of Little Bug and her three Grandma’s (her Grandmas and her Mimi), her Mama and her great-grandmother on Father’s Day of 2009! Little Bug was only 3 weeks old. I love generational pictures.
Newborn and 1 year figurine: Growing up every birthday my parents gave me one of these dolls. I got one every year until I was 18. Little Bug has the newborn and 1 year old. Soon, the 2 year old will also sit on the dresser!
Duck jewlry holder: Little Bug’s great grandmother (on Dave’s side) gave this to Little Bug at a time when she was really into ducks!
Brazilian bird: Bisa (Little Bug’s great grandmother) gave her a little bird to put in her room. My mom and I both have bigger birds displayed in our house and Little Bug likes to look at them.
Lady Bug: My mom had this at one of my showers for “Little Bug”. People put Bible verses in there for me to read later.
Pink Flowers: Aunt Amanda decorated with those flowers at the shower she gave me. They matched perfectly with the décor of Little Bug’s room!
Boom Box “AKA, White Noise Machine”: Little Bug still sleeps with the Rain sounds every night. It’s another one of those situations where I am not going to fix something that isn’t broken! Plus, it drowns out all the noise and with a girl that is curious about everything, if Little Bug woke every time she heard something, she would never sleep. She needs something to drown out the environment so she can turn her little brain off and go to sleep!
Butterflies: I found these in my Grandma’s house after she died. My grandpa gave them to me. I think my Grandma made these. Not sure though. I kept them all these years (Grandma died when I was 15) and they fit perfectly in Little Bug’s room. They hang to the right of her crib.
A cross stitch my grandma made. It hung in my nursery when I was a baby.
View when standing at the door looking into Little Bug’s room!
I love Little Bug’s room and have such fond memories of painting it and getting it ready for her birth. I wanted it completely DONE before her birth, which is comical to me now, because Little Bug didn’t sleep in this room until she was 4 months old! She slept in our room in a bassinet until she was 4 months!
This will always be Little Bug’s room! I thought I would move her to the office and keep this the “nursery” when we adopt again, but this is Little Bug’s room now.
