Tummy Time

Dec 14, 2011

We are not good about doing Tummy Time around here because Sweet Pea tends to spit up more if she is on her tummy.

And after being on her tummy it seems to irritate everything in there for her and she seems to be uncomfortable.

At Sweet Pea’s 4 month check up on December 8th, Dr. C understood why we haven’t really done Tummy Time, but she did say it is very important for her development and suggested I prop her up on a Boppy pillow.

So, that is what I did and that did seem to help her. She didn’t spit up once but then during the nap after that Tummy Time she woke up crying as if she was in pain. I went to her and picked her up to burp her and she burped and then went back to sleep. I don’t know if the Tummy Time was the culprit of that air bubble or not, but hopefully we will be able to get more Tummy Time in this way. I had actually tried doing Tummy Time on the Boppy when she was around a month old, but it made no difference for her then.

When I took the above picture, Sweet Pea hadn’t been on her tummy in weeks. The last time I had put her on her tummy she was still in the stage where she hardly was able to get her head off the ground. But I put her on her tummy for this picture and up popped her head and I was so surprised and happy to see she had this much strength to hold her head up like this after having hardly any tummy time.

We do always hold her upright in a standing position, so I guess she has been able to exercise her head and neck muscles that way.

Hopefully the Boppy will be our answer to more Tummy Time for Sweet Pea!!
