Stomach Bug

Mar 22, 2012

I got it last night. And I am miserable. But, what makes me sit here and just cry is that my baby girl (Little Bug) has gotten sick three times now, too.

My mom came and picked both girls up this morning & Little Bug threw up in the car on the way to the house.

Last night, as I was sick, I pleaded with God to please just spare my babies and husband.

I am phobic of vomit. Seriously. I would rather have any sickness than the stomach bug and I do everything I know possible to keep my kids protected from it (probiotics and frequent hand-washing before eating anything).

And I feel like a failure.

I know that is an insane statement to make but, call me crazy, it’s the way I feel right now. I am in no shape to drive anywhere and my baby is sick and I am not there for her. It makes me just sit here and cry.

My mom is seriously a hero. I KNOW she is in good hands today. My mom loves her like she loves her own children. She is one devoted grandma and she is one of my greatest blessings in this life.

And, of course, I am wracking my brain to figure out how we were exposed and if it is a virus or food poisoning.

We went out to eat last night – the four of us. Little Bug and I had the same chicken. Dave ate some from both our plates and he is not sick.

When I thought that, I thought for sure it was food poisoning because, for it to be a virus, that was a pretty quick turn around for Little Bug to get sick. About 12 hours from when I got sick. Viruses usually have an incubation period of 24-48 hours. And it is strange that Dave wouldn’t be sick as well, since he ate the same chicken. I will NEVER step food in that restaurant again. (Told you I have a phobia.)

Then Dave tells me he thinks we got it from someone at his work whose wife was sick with the virus. The guy came to a meeting on Monday (of which Dave was also in) and said he wasn’t feeling good. Sure enough, he was sick the next day.

Dave’s theory is that Dave picked up the virus and brought it home to Little Bug and me on Monday. Which does make sense. 48 hours later I was sick and Little Bug was close behind.

Why is Dave not sick? Well, he either didn’t ingest the virus (the virus has to be ingested or enters the body through the mouth or nose) or has a longer incubation period than we do. But if this is the case, Little Bug and I ingested the virus from Dave’s hand or whatever and wa-la, we are sick now.

I seriously despise this illness. This seriously makes me want to live in a bubble. I know that is not practical nor the reality of life.

I read this fabulous site about the stomach bug that a woman with a Ph D (she is NOT a medical doctor but has done TONS of research on this) has compiled to educate people about how this virus is spread. Very informative. I will probably write a post about all I learned about the stomach virus soon. Click here for the link and learn something new.

For now I am going to try and sleep (although my body aches and I can’t get comfortable to sleep). Prayers appreciated for my family, please.

I have to keep perspective and know we WILL get through this.

And then move into our Bubble House. Forever.
