A Remarkable Recovery

Apr 03, 2012

Last week I asked for prayer for my friend’s 2.5 year old son, Nathan, who underwent brain surgery to correct his Craniosynostosis.

This little boy was prayed for by many people and over the past week, he has had a remarkable recovery.

With Ashley’s permission, I would like to tell the story of his incredible recovery…

This picture of Nathan and his daddy was taken the morning of surgery (March 27th). Ashley wrote this caption to go along with this photo: Ten and a half years ago, he made a commitment to fight all enemies both foreign and domestic. I have a feeling this day might be harder on him than that one was.

One hour post-op Brian and Ashley saw their baby boy for the first time since he had gone back for his surgery.

Shortly after surgery, Nathan’s left eye was completely swollen shut. Ashley wrote: So pitiful, but so strong.

This next picture is a story of God’s faithfulness. Here you see a little boy recovering from major brain surgery with his mother standing by his bedside visibly upset. Ashley wrote: So glad we were on the other side, but still scared to death.

A friend wrote a comment to this picture on Facebook: Ashley you are an amazingly STRONG woman and mother!!!!

To which Ashley responded: Aw, thank you. I wasn't strong the whole time, that's for sure. Notice the incredibly red, swollen, puffy eyes and face for that matter here. I think this was right after a break down session. We had one at least once a day.

I love the testimony this picture and these words proclaim. This is how God calls us to live our lives. If you read Ashley’s blog you can see that Ashley DOES have an incredible strength and faith that come from her Lord, Jesus Christ. He has walked this journey with them. There were certainly going to be “break down sessions” because her baby boy was having brain surgery, but God was faithful to this family  as they walked this very scary journey.

Praise God that even while Ashley was scared to death as she stood by her son’s side, Ashley’s Heavenly Father was standing right there with them, too.

Ashley’s earthly parents were there, as well, which I think is just so incredibly special. Ashley’s parents physically traveled this journey with Brian, Ashley and Nathan. They packed up and made the trip with them twice. Once for pre-op appointments about a month before surgery and then for the actual surgery.

There is Nathan’s Papa holding him after surgery. Nathan’s Papa wrote on Saturday (4 days post-op): And to think he is pretty much back on his feet and full speed already. This my dear friends is a miracle, yes, doctors and a medical staff were tools that were used and for them we are forever grateful but all honor and glory to Christ Jesus for the things He has done to bring us here.

This next picture clearly shows Nathan’s remarkable recovery. The picture on the left is 24 hours post-op, the middle picture is 2 days & 12 hours post-op and the picture on the right is 3 days post-op!!

When Ashley posted these pictures she wrote: He is doing amazing!

Just 48 hours after surgery, Nathan was discharged from the hospital!!!

Five days post-op (April 1st) Nathan and his family were on the airplane headed back home!

What a scary journey.

God’s faithfulness truly has brought them through to the other side!!
