Haiti
Jul 15, 2012
Saturday morning in the wee hours of the morning, before the sun was even up, my husband, Dave, and 44 other people from our church drove to an airport and caught a flight to Haiti!!
Dave is on his first Mission Trip and I am just thrilled he had this opportunity to go.
Several months ago Dave shared with me that God had been asking Him to go and he wondered what I thought of that.
I said, “Well, then, you need to go!!”
I will admit, it was hard to see him go for several reasons. One, and the most obvious, is that I will miss him so much! Two, it will be interesting being a “single mom” while he is away. (But both sets of our parents are helping out this week which is a huge blessing.) And three, in college and while teaching, I went on three mission trips and have not been on one since 2005…so I just wished I could have gone, too! (Had God called me to go, I certainly would have gone, but I know, for now, my place of service is with my girls.)
The hardest part for me was knowing I wasn’t going to be able to talk to Dave – a person I have talked to almost every single day for SIX years! But then…I got the girls to bed on Saturday night and later, as I checked email, I had an EMAIL from DAVE!
What?!
He wrote, “I have Wi-Fi here at the mission house!”
I jumped on the computer and we chatted via gmail chat!
They had some down time after church today and we chatted again. Dave gave me an update on what had happened this morning.
This morning, the mission team split into 8 different groups and went to 8 different churches. Several of the team members from each group were able to share their testimonies at the various churches this morning. Dave shared his testimony along with about 23 other team members.
Tonight they have a crusade.
Tomorrow Dave and several others will be going out onto the streets in Haiti to share the Good News of Jesus Christ!
This building you see in the picture below is where the Men’s, Women’s & Youth Conferences along with Soccer, Basketball and Medical Clinics will be held this week.
Dave said, “This is my view from my bunk.” when he sent this picture to me. They are staying in a mission house.
Little Bug was convinced her Daddy was going to be home when she woke up this morning. Then, she wasn’t too happy that Aunt Amanda wasn’t going to be in her class this morning at church because she too is in Haiti. I think I might make her a calendar where she can check off each day until Daddy and Aunt Amanda come home.
I am excited to see what big things God is going to do through the lives of ordinary men, women and teens who have answered the call of God and said, “YES” when He asked them to be the hands and feet of Jesus this week in Haiti.
