“Take off your sunglasses.”

Jul 25, 2012

When hearing about the 2012 Haiti Mission Trip, one word was frequently used: boldness.

The team was prepped and trained before boarding the plane to boldly share their testimonies and present the Gospel.

Dave really enjoyed getting to know G, our pastor’s 17 year old son, on the trip.

One day G was out talking to the Haitian people about Jesus when he came upon this “rough and tough” looking dude wearing sunglasses. G started talking to him.

Dave said G had a boldness about him that was incredible. He was afraid to talk to no one.

This dude was completely resistant to anything G was saying.

When G asked him, “Do you know where you will live in eternity after you die?”, the dude matter-of-factly replied with, “Hell.”

G asked, “And you are okay with that?”

The dude shrugged and said, “Yeah.”

G could have chosen to walk away at that point, giving up on this guy ever seeing Truth.

But he did not.

G got inches away from the dude’s face and told him, “Take off your sunglasses.”

He complied.

Then G said, “Look me in the eyes and tell me you are okay with going to Hell when you die.”

The dude softened at this point and began listening to G’s testimony of God in his own life.

Then G presented the Gospel to him and this “rough and tough” guy with the cool sunglasses saw his need for a Savior and surrendered his life to Christ that day!

It takes boldness to speak the name of Jesus in this day and age. But God certainly blessed the team as they stepped out of their comfort zones and went to a foreign land to tell others about a Hope in Jesus Christ that is truly everlasting.

Dave has said he will write about how God changed his heart about our birth moms! Be looking for that soon! It will also be my last “Haiti Post”. Thank you to those of you who stuck around to read these posts as I know they have nothing to do with the overall theme of my blog. However, one day my girls will probably read this blog and I want them to read about their Daddy’s Haiti trip because it has truly changed his life forever.
