R Week!

Aug 14, 2012

Little Bug made a rainbow on the letter Rr using pieces of tissue paper. (I just didn’t have the color orange to make the rainbow complete!)

Little Bug did capital/lower case sorting of the letter Rr.

I bought these letter tiles off Amazon and we love them!!

We dumped them all out on the table and searched for Rr.

Then I got a muffin tin and put the letter Rr along with some other various letters into the tin. I gave Little Bug an eye dropper and bowl of water and told her to squirt water on the letter Rr only!

She loves most every activity we do, but this was a favorite for sure!

The day after she did this activity, she was telling her Daddy about it at breakfast. The conversation went like this:

Me: "What letter did you put the water on?"
Little Bug: "On the R! And I squeezed some on the G!"
Dave: "Were you supposed to put it on the G?!"
Little Bug: "No, but I did it anyways..."

That describes our girl to a T! Smile

Little Bug circled the letter that the color of the robot starts with. She got a little crazy with some of her circles! (Click on the Robot packet to find this activity.)

Little Bug played the Letter Matching game. It includes the entire alphabet but we only did a few letters at a time!

We did Robot Fractions! I told her stories about robots who had a pie and wanted to share with their friends. She was really into my stories and the names I would give the robots and their friends. We learned two halves make a whole, two fourths make a half and four fourths make a whole.

Little Bug played the Counting Cards game. She matched the numerical number to the correct number of dots.

We did an experiment to make rain!

We did this at my parents’ house. This experiment requires boiling water and I wanted some extra hands to help.

First, we got a pot of water to boil.

DSCN0338

Then Little Bug put some ice cubes in a foil cake pan until she decided her hands were too cold. So, my mom and I were trying to help her and…

DSCN0332

…Sweet Pea reached her container of sweet potatoes and spilled them all over the floor!!!

(That wasn’t part of the experiment.)

DSCN0334

When you hold the foil cake pan with ice over the steam of the boiling water, it creates rain!!

DSCN0340

We talked about how water on the earth evaporates into the sky and when the warm temperatures meet the cool temperatures in the clouds it makes RAIN!

DSCN0336

We never got a “downfall”. The “rain” started to build up under the foil pan and we got a few drops!

This was the first time Little Bug did Letter Matching. Using the letter tiles she spelled the word rainbow in lower case and capital letters. Later, I thought to myself that maybe I should skip over the capital letter page because writing in all caps is not the way I want her to write. Kinder teacher friends and family (Aunt Naomi and Katie), what is your opinion??

We made a handprint rabbit!
