I am a cooking disaster.
Nov 09, 2012
I’ve got taking care of the girls down. And laundry. Learning Time and playing. I’ve got cleaning down. And organizing.
But when it comes to cooking?
I am a complete failure!
I can’t cook. Plain and simple. I ruin everything I touch and it is only by the grace of God that I have mastered cooking mac n cheese for my girls.
And, come on, mac n cheese doesn’t even really count as cooking. I know.
But that’s the closest I get.
Oh, and steaming veggies.
Since Little Bug came along I can steam some veggies. And they are actually edible.
But real meals?
Forget it!
Take yesterday for example. I decided to surprise Dave and I bought this mix, or whatever you call it, so that I could hopefully make a “crock pot meal”.
People always rave about their crock-pot meals and how easy they are and how good they taste.
So I decided to give it a try.
And what do you think I had at the end of my efforts?
A big pot of MUSH! Just look at that:
I have no idea what happened. Whatever you are seeing above was not what I envisioned my “crock pot meal” to look like! And I wasn’t about to serve it to my family. I must say though, my house did smell pretty good all day long yesterday.
Problem number one was probably that I wasn’t going off a recipe with this “crock pot meal” at all. I was just at the grocery store, came upon these “mixes” and decided to throw one in the cart along with some chicken breasts and I thought surely I could just throw it all in the crock pot with some water and the crock pot would make us a delicious meal.
That is how crock pot meals work, right?
Well, apparently not.
I’m to the point now where I am going to learn to cook at least a crock pot meal!
I will. I will. I will!
And this is where you come in!
Do you have any easy crock pot meal recipes that I could easily follow and wow my husband with a ready-made meal when he walks in the door from work?!
I know all crock pot meals are probably classified as “easy” cooking but, humor me, and give me the easiest of easiest crock pot meals so I can boost my self-esteem in the cooking department!
Rebecca, you can start with your de-licous roast/potatoes/carrots plus 12 ounces of coke crock pot meal you made for dinner one night when we were there. It was good. Really good. And I think I could possibly pull that one off.
Regardless, I know this is an area of my life I need to work on. Cooking is not just for geniuses. I can do this. I just need to put some time and effort into learning the tricks of the trade. And crock pot meals seems like the best (and easiest!) way to start.
And just incase you are wondering, How does her family eat if she doesn’t cook?? Well, I am incredibly blessed in that three nights a week we are either at my parents’ house or my in-laws and then the other four nights Chef Dave covers our meals. And he is a very good cook and doesn’t mind it at all.
But like I said. I refuse to throw up the white flag with one failed crock pot meal under my belt. I will learn to cook crock pot meals!
Share away! Please.
And thank you.
