10 inches
Jan 21, 2013
Last Friday morning my mom and I took Little Bug to the salon where we get our hair cut. We walked in and I honestly had no idea what her hair would look like when we left. Would we get it chopped off to above her shoulders or just cut off a good 6-8 inches?
Little Bug got up in the chair and we started talking about our options. I asked how many inches would need to be cut to donate. She told me ten inches, which is what I had read on the internet. That is a lot!! In the picture below she was measuring ten inches to show me how much that would be.
I decided to ask Little Bug since we all know she has an opinion about EVERYTHING.
I told her that there are children who get sick and have to take a medicine that makes all their hair fall out. So they wear wigs and they get their wigs from other children who donate their hair to them! I asked Little Bug if she wanted to cut 10 inches of her hair to donate to another child. She was ALL for that, so I told Serena to go for the 10 inches.
I will admit I was sad to see that beautiful golden hair being chopped off, but I absolutely loved the opportunity it gave me to teach Little Bug a tangible lesson on giving of self for someone else.
I think I was a little bit in shock here while holding that 10 inch pony tail that had just been chopped off!!
While I think her short hair is absolutely adorable it is going to take some time for me to get used to her new look!
She looks SO much older to me now!
I asked Little Bug if she likes her hair short or long and she said, “Short!”.
When we got back to my parents’ house Little Bug couldn’t wait to show Gramps her new haircut! She ran in the house to find him and then we heard her tell him, “But my name is STILL Little Bug!!”.
If I am completely honest…I miss her long hair and I wish it was a little longer. But then she wouldn’t have been able to donate it. It will grow back and the short cut really does look cute on her.
Not to be left out in the picture-taking, Sweet Pea got in the rocking chair after Little Bug and gave me her beautiful smile!
Two beautiful girls!
