No big deal.
Feb 13, 2013
Grace was over playing with the girls and at dinner we had an interesting conversation.
We were talking about what grade Grace will be in when Little Bug starts Kindergarten. We figured up that Grace will be in 11th grade. Then I told them I had just finished 11th grade when Grace was born.
And then Little Bug asked Grace, “How were you born, Grace?”.
Grace looked over at me as if to say, You can answer this one!
I just said, “Grace used to be in Mrs. Ashlie’s belly!”
Then Little Bug said, as if it’s really no big deal whatsoever, “I used to be in Ms. Tracy’s belly!”
And while her adoption story is a big deal because it is a big miracle that God did, I want her to grow up always knowing she used to be in Ms. Tracy’s belly and it’s no big deal that she was never in mine.
It was really cool for me to watch her talk about this with Grace that night, completely confident in the fact that she “used to be in Tracy’s belly”.
I don’t want to constantly bombard her with her adoption story, but I do want it to be something that she grows up just knowing so that as the story comes together in her little mind as she grows and matures, nothing about it will seem like a big deal. Or a secret. Or something to hide.
I think we are off to a good start.
