Moving Day

Apr 22, 2013

Moving is exhausting, but after many trips across town moving things by the carload and the moving company moving our furniture Friday, we are now 100% moved in to the new house!!

I think the emotions of moving caught up with me Friday too. Actually leaving our home of the past 6 years with nothing but empty rooms and dust (yikes, I’ve got some cleaning to do there before the renters move in!) was a little bit sad. But there is no doubt in my mind this new house will become home very quickly!

The movers were two hours late arriving! They had something happen at the job before ours and it delayed them. Those two hours were actually a gift to me though.

While I waited for them to arrive, I went out on the back patio and sat in the swing and looked out into the backyard and thought about everything.

I’ve spent many moments through the years in that very spot just being still before the Lord. And Friday was no exception. I’ve been working like a mad-woman since we closed and it was nice to just be still. So I laid out there on the swing for over an hour replaying my life in that house.

I like this tree in our backyard there. It is always so pretty and every year it always goes through the four seasons. The leaves turn beautiful colors in the fall, it is bare in winter and come spring little buds sprout until it is in plush green in the summer.

It reminds me of life and how life is made of seasons. I’ve felt for some time now that my season of infertility was completely over, but this move solidifies those feelings even more. There are no memories of infertility in this new house. That was a season past.

The movers arrived close to 1pm and got right to work.

They were some big guys who got the job done and they took great care with our furniture.

Dave moved everything that he could move himself to the garage so they could load it on the truck. This saved them time which saved us some money. Within several hours they had all our furniture loaded on the truck.

This is kind of ironic but only one thing was left in the house – the TV – because they don’t move electronics not in a box. When we closed on this house 6 years ago, the very first thing we moved into the house was this TV. We set it up right there on the living room floor and watched a movie at the house together the day we closed!

Dave left with the movers to head to the new house and I went in to lock up the empty house. That was sad walking around there. My phone rang at just the right time to distract me from getting too sad and it was Amanda. She was on her way home from work and wanted to see the furniture in the new house! Her call couldn’t have come at a better time! She came and we loaded her car with the TV and headed to the new house.

Friday night Amanda helped me unpack our bathroom boxes and make the bed since we’d be spending the night.

This weekend we worked on unpacking and getting this house set up! Wow- I never knew just how much WORK is involved in moving, especially when you do it mostly all yourself! It is a lot of work! But it is coming along, one box at a time!
