Summer

Jul 24, 2013

In June we started the last month of our themed Learning Time.

Little Bug is getting good with working scissors! I did this activity just so she could practice her scissor skills. I gave her strips of red and green paper and had her cut the strips in to squares. She was quite proud of herself! I was so proud of her too!

After cutting, Little Bug glued the red and green squares to make one of her favorite summertime fruits…watermelon!! This was also a good counting activity. I asked Little Bug how many seeds she wanted. She told me 14. So I cut her 14 and she counted them as I gave them to her. Then she decided she only wanted to glue 10 of them on the watermelon.

We did Flower Math. We had fun with this making up stories about flowers! This is a fun way to do simple math (addition/subtraction) with a preschooler.

We did a Sponge Relay! All you need for this is two bowls, a cup measuring cup and sponges (one for each child)!

First we poured water by the cup into one of the bowls. We put 7 cups in the bowl.

Then Little Bug and Sweet Pea were each given a sponge and were told to dip it in the bowl full of water and then carry it over to the other bowl and ring the water out into the bowl!

They LOVED this! After all the water was out of the first bowl, we measured how much water successfully transferred to the second bowl.

We had only ONE cup in the second bowl! haha!!! I asked Little Bug where all the water went and she pointed to the ground and smiled real big!

Yep, as you can see from the picture above, most of the water from the first bowl landed on the driveway instead of in the second bowl!

After the game was finished, the girls continued to have tons of fun just playing with the water and sponges. We will be doing this activity again throughout the summer! Huge hit with my girls!

We read one of our favorite books by Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

And then we made a caterpillar using paint and empty toilet paper tubes! They dipped the end of the toilet paper tube into the paint to make the caterpillar. Then, using a fork, they painted the grass. Cotton balls glued at the top of their papers were the clouds!

Do you remember “Baby Sunshine”? I requested prayer for this little girl multiple times on my blog as we waited to see where God was going to place this precious child permanently. Rebekah Love is such a beautiful little girl. I love seeing these two together. Redemptive love is written all over them. Rebekah played with us for a day while her Mom worked on taking care of family matters after the death of her father earlier this month. Lindsay blogs at The Crosby Show. There you will see the newest addition to the family, Caleb!

And that wrapped up our Summer activities!
