{Books We Read}

Our Ready-Made Preschool book was On the Night You Were Born. I had subconsciously not ever picked this book to read to my girls because I always wondered if it wouldn’t apply to a child who was adopted. After actually reading it, I love this book! It is so sweet and talks of nature celebrating a baby’s birth. This is one I chose to buy from Amazon because it was so cheap and I am glad we now own it.

Little Bug’s read aloud for the past two weeks has been A Christmas Carol. She is reading this one with mainly Daddy although I have read a couple chapters to her too. Dave told me he really enjoys reading Great Illustrated Classics to her and when they are finished he is usually the first to ask for another book!

When I ordered the second 10 weeks of Ready-Made Preschool my order got mixed up and to compensate for the inconvenience, they sent us a free copy of God Gave Us Christmas. If you are looking for a book that talks of Santa but tells the true meaning of Christmas, look no further. This is probably my top favorite children’s Christmas book. It is so well written and on the perfect level for preschooler all the way up to adult!

The girls continue to open one library book (that I wrapped and placed under their playroom tree) every day. We really enjoyed Little Santa. While we don’t teach our children that Santa is the one who is going to come down the chimney and bring them presents on Christmas Eve, we talk about Santa just like we would Minnie Mouse or Cinderella. Little Santa is an adorable book about Santa Clause when he was a little boy and how he ended up at the North Pole. This is another one I’d love to have in our home library.

{Letter of the Week}

The Letter of the Week this week was the Letter Yy. She did her Letter Yy craft. She painted the y yellow and then put hazard stickers on the letter y because poison is yucky. For her ABC Book Letter Yy page, we could not find any pictures of things that start with y so we looked for the Letter Yy in magazines instead and Little Bug cut them out and glued them on her page. Little Bug enjoyed doing her Do-A-Dot Letter Yy, drawing the Letter Yy in shaving cream and making the Letter Yy with Play-Doh!

{Our 5 Senses}

Grams did school with Little Bug two days of this week since I was in Pittsburg. They did the 5 Senses Chart. This was an intro activity to a week of learning all about the five senses! They painted Little Bug’s hands and she put her handprints on a piece of paper. Then she glued a “Handprint Poem” to the paper. That’s a good poem to remind Mommys that their babies grow up fast and we need to cherish their little handprints on the glass doors instead of always trying to keep the glass sparkly clean! That was her “sight” activity. For her “hearing” activity she made a tambourine with paper plates and jingle bells!

There was also a great emphasis on self esteem this week. We read Psalm 139 and talked about how God created each of us very special and He knew us before we were even born.

After I returned from Pittsburg we finished up this week’s lessons on Friday and Saturday. We had the best time doing these activities! Little Bug loved these days. The weather was gorgeous and we had just gotten our deck furniture (it is our Christmas present to each other this year) and Little Bug and I decided to go outside to do school on Saturday! We had a smelling game and a tasting game! Little Bug’s favorite sense is smelling. I had gathered various things for her to smell and she closed her eyes and I would put one under her nose to smell and she would guess what it was. She got every one correct!

Then we played the tasting game. Again I gathered things for her to taste. She especially enjoyed tasting her candy cane! As she would taste the different things, she made her Taste Bar Graph.

{Places We Went}

Tuesday while I was in Pittsburg my parents took the girls to the zoo! Our passes had expired so we had not been in a long while and the girls were very excited to go!
