The Mitten {Winter, Measurement, Letter Review}

{Sequence of Events}
The week of March 10-14th we did our Winter Theme/Review week in Ready-Made Preschool. The book this week was The Mitten, an adorable story about a little boy’s lost mitten that became shelter for many animals in the forest.
Little Bug got to “weave” a mitten together by putting the yarn through the holes all the way around the mitten. Then she got to paint each of the animals from the book and attach them to popsicle sticks to make a Story Prop that she used to act out the story while I read it to her.
This is a great book to teach sequence of events. Little Bug laid the animals on the floor in the order that they each crawled inside the mitten.
{Measurement, Letter Review}
Using a pair of Little Bug’s mittens we did a measurement activity. Using blocks, quarters, clothespins, and markers, she estimated how long she thought each would be and then she used each object to measure the actual length of her mitten.
Little Bug got to make a snowman since our theme this week was winter! She loved this activity and took great care to make her snowman just right. Of course the glitter was her favorite part. Having her work on a cookie sheet really does eliminate most of the glitter mess. After she is done I just take the cookie sheet and wash it and very minimal amounts of glitter are left where she was working!
We talked about the four seasons and the fact that it is no longer and winter and is almost officially spring!
We also went through her ABC Book to review the letters and letter sounds.
{Science}
For Science the girls made a Pumpkin Pie with Grams. This was their request as they LOVE to make pies with Grams.
