The Story of Ping {Letter Qq, Ducks}

{Books We Read}
Our Ready-Made Preschool book was The Story of Ping. I was excited to see this book included in Ready-Made Preschool because this book is a classic and we had not read it yet even though I happened to already have a copy of it in our home library! The book did not disappoint. It was a cute story of a little duck named Ping who learns an important lesson about obeying his master.
Our Bible Time this week centered upon the story of Jesus and His 12 disciples. We read the Arch Book Jesus’ 12 Disciples along with several other of our Bible Time Bibles (you can see what those are here) which focused on telling about several of the individual disciples and their relationships with Jesus.
Little Bug found the Boxcar Children book Bus Station Mystery and asked if we could read it. It was good to read aloud a chapter book as we hadn’t done so in a long while! Little Bug LOVES the Boxcar Children series.
{Letter of the Week}
The Letter of the Week was Letter Qq. Because the letter u is always after the letter q, she had a letter q and u letter craft this week. I told her a story of the King of U marrying the Queen of Q, so she got to make a queen and king and glue them onto the letters and then decorate the letters. She wanted me to help her decorate the letters. She made Qq’s in shaving cream and salt and with her Do-A-Dot markers. She made her Qq page in her ABC Book and she also pulled out the Leap Frog Letter Phonics and played with those.
{Ducks, Differentiating between Letters D, Q, B and P, The Marriage of Q and U}
We came up with a list of words that start with q so that Little Bug could observe that there is always a u after words that start with q!
Little Bug got to make an adorable duck craft by painting her foot yellow and then gluing on the other parts of the duck. He is so cute!
We also did a science experiment to see why water just rolls off the back of a duck and doesn’t soak the duck! Little Bug put cooking oil on one feather and left the other feather as it was. Then she poured water on each feather and observed what happened.
The letters D, Q, B and P can be quite confusing for little ones to distinguish from each other so we played a game to help letter recognition with these letters. Little Bug didn’t have a hard time with this and correctly named the letters most of the time. There was a couple of times where she called a “b” a “d” or a “p” a “q”.
