{Books We Read}

Our Ready-Made Preschool book this week was Two Bad Ants. We went to the library for this book and had to have it ordered. It came while we were on our trip. I wish we had a copy of this book! (And I just found a link where you can buy it used for a little over $5!) I appreciate the way it is written because the settings of the story make the child have to think about what the author is writing. For example it says that the ants “fell into a brown lake”. The “brown lake” was coffee! It was fun for Little Bug to figure out where the ants were on their adventures. Because of the insect theme, we also checked out The Very Lazy Ladybug which was a super cute story.

Our Bible story this week was the story about Jesus and the children. Sweet Pea glued the pictures of the children onto the paper all by herself and Little Bug drew herself on the other paper.

We continued to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe before naptime on most days.

{Letter of the Week}

The Letter of the Week was Letter Ii. Little Bug made the letter Ii with play dough, in shaving cream, with Do-A-Dot markers and the magnets. She did her Ii page in her ABC Book.

{Insect Facts, Graphing & Addition}

Every day our lessons began with learning facts about different types of insects: ants, firefly and ladybug. We read Proverbs 6:6-8 to learn about what the Bible has to say about ants.

Little Bug had 10 insect stickers to decorate her letter I. Then she was to use the insects to make her Insect Graph. We talked about which insect had more and less and then she told me that the number of insects was double the number of bees. I didn’t know she knew what “double” means!

She got to use glow in the dark paint on the firefly. The paint was really suppose to go on the tail end of the firefly but she wanted to decorate the entire firefly. She had fun taking it into dark spots in the house and seeing it glow! She also got to make an Ant Hill. She cut it out, drew the tunnels and then used stamp ink and her finger to make the ants.

The last day Little Bug did Ladybug Math. This activity really helped her understanding of addition as she was able to look at her lady bugs on the leaves and tell me the addition problem she had just solved!

{Energy & Gravity}

The girls got a science lesson about energy and gravity. Grams set up a small cup of water with a plate, toilet paper roll and egg on top. Then Grams hit the toilet paper roll with her hand which sent the plate flying too and made the egg fall into the cup of water! The energy from Gram’s hand made the tray fly off and gravity made the egg fall into the water. The girls were amazed by that “trick”!

It is easy to teach the girls about seeds and plants growing because their Gramps always has a garden going at this time of the year! He was showing them the squash that is coming up and in the background you can see all the green bean vines!

{Flower Petal Placemat}

Grams has a beautiful flower garden in the backyard and she graciously allowed two little girls to pick a few of her flowers to make Flower Petal Placemats. They each had a piece of contact paper laid on the table sticky side up. Then they put flower peddles all over the contact paper, I laid the frame down and then covered the whole thing with another piece of contact paper. They were beautiful!

Our board at the end of the week:

We have just two more weeks of Ready-Made Preschool left (plus a review week that I will do with Little Bug throughout the summer)! I have decided to take a “summer break”. I’ve been trying to decide if we will follow the normal school schedule or school year round. I am thinking at this phase of life, the normal school schedule will be most likely what we follow. I like the idea of summer break and starting fresh in the fall!
