Zero {Letter Zz, The Number Zero, Zacchaeus, Zoo}
Jun 10, 2014
{Books We Read}
Our Ready-Made Preschool book this week was Zero but, again, we didn’t get to read it due to our library not having it and it being more than I was willing to pay on Amazon. And again, it looked like a very good book as the number zero feels bad about itself but then realizes that every number has value! This is a good book to talk about self-esteem with children. We read Chicka Chicka 123 which is another great book about the number zero. In this book, the number zero becomes the hero! We also read the story of Zacchaeus in the Bible.
{Letter of the Week}
The letter of the week was Letter Zz! To finish up her letter crafts Little Bug put zebra strips on her Letter z. I am going to take all the letters she has made with Ready-Made Preschool and put them up in order on a wall in our Homeschool Room! Little Bug made the Letter Zz with playdough (she purposefully made ‘blobs’ instead of ‘snakes’ to make her letter z because she thought it was funny) and with the Do-A-Dot markers. She completed her ABC Book by doing her Zz page.
{Zacchaeus, Zoo Animal Game & I am a Child of God}
We read the story of Zacchaeus in the Bible and then she got to make a picture of Zacchaeus in the tree looking for Jesus. We talked about how Jesus called Zacchaeus by name when he was up in the tree because Jesus knows and loves everyone. Little Bug made a Child of God cross and later she hung it on her wall in her room to remind her that Jesus knows everything about her and loves her.
We played Zero Zoo Animal game which taught the concepts of subtraction and zero.
{Mudpies to Magnets}
Our last experiment for this year was Put Them in a Row from the Mudpies to Magnet book. This was basically experimenting with various objects by putting them in patterns. Sweet Pea was able to do a simple AB pattern! I was so proud of her! Little Bug loves patterns and is getting good at some complicated ones.
{Places We Went}
This didn’t have to do with our Z week theme, but on the last day of school, we went on a special outing to go pick blueberries. Well, I guess it did have something to do with Z week because ZERO of the berries the girls’ picked ended up in their buckets – they ALL ended up in their tummies! And then, as you can see, Sweet Pea found the source and just sat there eating blueberries straight from the buckets that we had picked! I picked about 2 pounds and it is so nice to have fresh blueberries in the house although I know they won’t last long!
Our board at the end of the week:
And with that, we have completed Ready-Made Preschool Level 2! What a fabulous year Little Bug has had with it!
